Hi, I’m David

I’m a research-driven and purposeful UX Designer, who has always been interested in making complex things clear.

After working as a business analyst, I am now thrilled to be moving into the field of User Experience (UX) Design. My BA experience has enabled me to better align the designs I create with existing business goals and technological constraints.

My design interests include User Research, Information Architecture, and Usability Testing.

Outside of my design work, I like to volunteer with a wilderness search and rescue team, listen to audiobooks, and take road trips across the East Coast the United States.

UX Books I’d Recommend

This book is an excellent explanation on how UX design should be aligned with an overall product vision, in order for a company to thrive. A great book about the business nature of design.

Designers ultimately need to be able to persuade stakeholders, from developers to executives, about the value a product design brings to the organization. Tom Greever’s book does an excellent job explaining the strategies and tactics that can be used to make a compelling presentation.

A broad overview of UX research and the techniques and skills needed for quality UX research to be done.

General Books I’d Recommend

I wanted to be a cartoonist when I was a kid, and this book, a comic describing the medium of comics, was a big reason why. This work has also influenced how I think about UX, and how the unique combination of graphics and text work to generate a specific emotional state.

I’m from the New York City area, so this intricate biography of Robert Moses, and how he was able to shape New York across a multi-decade span always engrosses me. Caro has the unique ability to make personalities that are long-gone come to life on the page.

Ostensibly about advertising, the focus of Alchemy is on human behavior and how subtle design choices, such as a particular shade of blue, can influence it. The audiobook, narrated by the author, is highly recommended.
